It depends on the relative temperatures. For instance, you can look at a battleship in IR and see how many engines it has. The reason the tape in his example becomes invisible is because it heats up to the temperature of the hood. People behind a thin wall are much hotter than the wall or the room but whether or not they would be visible depends on the sensitivity of the device doing the looking, the thickness of the wall, and a host of other characteristics. In general, he's correct but not in all cases.

He's absolutely correct that IR sensors can not see through glass. The way they show it in movies drives me nuts.

Night vision goggles may or may not be IR. Lots of the old ones, and some current less expensive ones, are starlight scopes--they amplify the effects of starlight to produce a visible image--rather than infrared. The downside of that technology is that sudden bright lights will blind the sensor for a while.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15103618632033478309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5014794345851547607.post-81667097141731500352015-01-29T10:12:53.333-05:002015-01-29T10:12:53.333-05:00Barrel cactuses!
