As a former product of the foster care system myself (Los Angeles), I can relate to everything Nikki had to say. Another horror that used to keep my stomach in knots were the court visits. The process itself was scary, but in my case, I had an abusive mother, so wanting her to show up while also fearing that she would added to the anxiety. My novel "Skipping Childhood: A Novel" is about an abused child (prior to and during the years in foster care). She turns serial killer at a young age (sorry Nikki - a lot of us do turn out bad, but hopefully not murderers). Without realizing what was happening, I wrote this book to exercise my own demons. I had the protagonist kill abusers like the ones I couldn't kill off in real life. Sad as it is, the memories make for interesting reading. Thanks for this site and helping writers inject authenticity in their writing.Charm Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03341264755496718842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5014794345851547607.post-68120986741810352172015-07-20T22:19:07.922-04:002015-07-20T22:19:07.922-04:00Fiona, thanks so much for having Nikki Grey on boa...Fiona, thanks so much for having Nikki Grey on board. I learned SO much, and I have worked with many children and families over the years. What I think is so important is that children are INDIVIDUALS, all special, all different. Any attempt to lump them together is morally wrong. @LatelaMary@LatelaMaryhttp://mlatelablog.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
